October Programs for Lake Seneca Students at Germantown Library

Germantown Library (19840 Century Blvd.) has jam-packed its October events calendar with lots of programs of interest to Lake Seneca students. Below is just a select list. Visit the library’s Events page for a full list of events and further details. All programs are free. although some require advance registration. Teens Tutoring Kids Club
Mondays & Thursdays, 3:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m.
Poolesville High School students with a group called A Seat at Our Table will offer tutoring services to students in Kindergarten through Grade 6 for two hours after school on Mondays and Thursdays. The tutors will meet with students in the Group Study Room in the back of the children’s area.

Read to a Dog
Thursdays, 4:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.
Read to a certified therapy dog. We especially encourage the participation of beginning readers, or those who want to improve their reading skills. First come, first served. Tickets will be given out one-hour before the program.

Girls Just Want to Compute!
Thursdays, 6:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m.
Are you interested in developing computer coding skills and meeting like-minded students? Come join us! Ages 10 and up. No registration.

4th-6th Grade STEM Book Discussion
Thursday, 10/18, 6:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m.
Join us for a STEM-themed book club! Each month we will read and discuss a book with a STEM-based theme. Following the discussion will be a STEM activity. This discussion group is for 4th-6th graders. The next month’s book will be provided at the end of each meeting. This month’s book is Eye of the Storm by Kate Messner.
**Limited space. Register at the Germantown Library at the Children’s Information Desk and get a copy of the book. Must be in 4th-6th grade.**

STEM Time at Germantown Library
Wednesday, 10/24, 7:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.
Explore coding with Ozobots! Program our mini robots with color to make them move at your command.
**For ages 7-14. Please register online by 10/22 or call 240-777-0110.**

Creepy Reptiles!
Saturday, 10/27, 2:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m.
Some animals may seem scary, but in this show, you will find out why there is no reason to be afraid. Myths will be busted and the truth will be revealed about some of nature’s most misunderstood creatures. Featured animals may include snakes, giant cockroaches, toads and other “creepy creatures.” For children of all ages. Tickets available one-hour before the show at the Children’s Information Desk. This program is generously sponsored by the Friends of the Library, Germantown Chapter.
