Montgomery County Public Schools is developing the school calendar for the 2019-2020 school year. The Board of Education is considering two potential calendar scenarios.

As the district develops a calendar, it must start with several requirements from the State:

•       September 3–June 15: the permissible time frame for instruction
•       180: the minimum number of instructional days required
•       15: the number of State-mandated days that schools must be closed
•       Several emergency weather-related make-up days required during and at the end of the year

MCPS engages the community throughout the development of the calendar and seeks feedback from groups such as the Montgomery County Council of PTAs, employee associations, the Student Advisory Council, as well as other community members and school system leadership. Additionally, in May 2018, MCPS sent a survey to all families and staff seeking input on the 2019-2020 school year calendar. This survey included questions regarding school closure on various days, including religious and non-religious holidays. The data was analyzed and reviewed as context for the development of the calendar.
