November Workshops for Lake Seneca Families

The MCPS Office of Student and Family Support and Engagement offers workshops throughout the school year for parents and guardians that cover topics ranging from social media and cybersafety to homework, special education, and college preparation. All workshops are FREE and occur at schools and locations throughout Montgomery County; registration is recommended. Free childcare and interpretation services are provided.

Here are the November workshops we think will interest Lake Seneca families most. Unless otherwise indicated, workshops are suitable for parents and guardians of students in Kindergarten through Grade 5. Monday, 11/5  7:00-8:30 p.m.
How to Handle Homework Battles (presented in English)
Is it a battle to get your child to do homework? Wondering what to do? Find out how to support your child with his/her homework. The place, time, scenery, and noise can all affect the outcome of successful homework time. Learn tips for promoting peaceful homework experiences. Presented by Parent Assistance Resource (PAR).

Personality Traits that Result in Positive Student Outcomes (presented in English)
This is an insightful training session that will explore how personalities and behaviors affect the quality of interpersonal and school relationships. Through role playing, case study review, and lots of interaction, participants will have multiple opportunities to delve into how they can make a difference in their relationships and achieve positive family outcomes. Facilitated by Living Life International.

Learn about common websites, applications used by children, and safety issues related to computer and cell phone use. In addition, hear strategies for monitoring the use of social media in your household. Presented in collaboration with the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Positive Communication (presented in English)
Is it difficult to interact with your child? During this workshop, you will learn strategies to strengthen family communication, explore techniques to understand verbal cues, and establish age appropriate expectations for behavior and consequences. Presented by Parent Assistant Resource (PAR).
